Leading fleets signal interest in Nissan Leaf EV

06 Sep 2010 14:58

As the Nissan Leaf EV opens for pre-orders, two fleets have already expressed interest in opting for the model following early demonstrations.

The 100% electric vehicle, which is available for delivery from March, is said to be considerably cheaper to run than a conventional compact family hatchback. Depending on an individual’s electricity tariff and time of charging, it will be possible to run the LEAF for less than 2 pence per mile. Additional financial benefits include reduced servicing costs, exemption from London’s congestion charge, zero vehicle tax and zero benefit in kind for company car drivers.

The model is starting to capture the environmental imagination of a number of organisations, including British Gas and IKEA.

Charlie Brown, corporate environment manager UK & IE, IKEA Limited, said: 'The Nissan LEAF gives me everything I want in a car and doesn’t have the one thing I don’t want – an exhaust pipe.'

Latest registration figures show continued recovery in fleet sector

06 Sep 2010 12:45

The fleet market continued to show recovery last month, with another increase in new car registration figures, although there were significant drops in the small business and private sectors.

According to the latest SMMT data, a total of 31,544 new cars were registered to fleets in August - up by 8.2% on the total of 29,146 for August 2009.

Meanwhile, the consumer sector saw registrations plummet 37.8% to 22,187 units and the total market figure was down 17.5%.

Year to date, the figures remain more positive. Fleet sales are up 14.5% on the first eight months of 2009, standing at 625,438 units, while small fleet registrations remain up 3.5% at 61,886 units. YTD consumer sales were also up on 2009, by 12.9%.

'New car registrations were down 17.5% in August and conditions will remain challenging through the rest of the year,' said Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive. 'The industry enjoy... | read full article

Fleets turn to Defect Module to help meet best practice guidelines

06 Sep 2010 12:29

Jaama has reported increasing demand for its commercial vehicle defect logging reporting tool from organisations looking to meet legislative and "O" licence requirements.

The company's Defect Manager system is a web portal within its Key2 Vehicle Management software system, which can be accessed remotely via a personal digital assistant (PDA).

The technology provides drivers, transport and depot managers with an online tick box check list so they can complete a walk-round appraisal of all vehicles as frequently as they wish.

Jaama developed Defect Manager in conjunction with a number of its Key2 users including SIG, the Sheffield-based international supplier to the construction and building markets, and international courier and logistics company DHL.

SIG operates a fleet of 1,050 commercial vehicles of 7.5 tonnes and above, 650 light commercial vehicles and 1,200 company cars. The commercial vehicles are located at 450 SIG branches nationwide and responsible for delivering the company's range of products.

SIG uses Jaama's ... | read full article
